Non-profit corporation is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated financial
executive to fill the position of Director, Finance. The focus of this position is to
manage all aspects of the organization’s financial functions including all accounting,
budgeting, and forecasting, internal and external reporting, financial controls, tax
compliance, corporate tax returns, audit coordination, capital expenditures, cash
management, and accounts receivable, and accounts payable activity. The position
provides support for and reports to the Chief Operating Officer and leads all day-to-
day finance operations of a combined budget of $10 million, as well as the
supervision of an Accounting Assistant that supports the work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with
appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Maintain a system of
controls over accounting transactions.
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program
budgets and actual expenditures.
- Coordinate all audit activity.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax
filings.
- Consistently analyze financial data by generating and presenting monthly
financial reports and statements in an accurate and timely manner; clearly
communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor
progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of organization’s
financial status.
- Lead the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all
financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and
correct variances as appropriate.
- Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that
expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets
throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for
government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with
program managers; continuously collaborate with program managers to assess
the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and
administrative systems to support program operations.
- Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies
and investment guidelines.
Interest, Work Experience and Skills Desired
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration (required).
Graduate degree is a plus.
- Minimum of seven to ten years accounting experience in non-profit or for-profit
accounting environment and demonstrated experience coordinating audit
activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis and
accounting for investments.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP standards.
- Advanced computer skills required in Quickbooks; Microsoft Word, Excel and
Outlook. Knowledge and experience with Bill.com helpful.
- Experience with Netchex or similar payroll processing service.
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic
data interpretation versus simple reporting, including an ability to translate
complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-
finance managers.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to organizational
mission.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively
communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, Board
of Directors, or other outside partners.
- Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, with ability to multitask,
meet deadlines and manage multi-step projects with little supervision in a fast-
paced environment.
- Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the
foresight and ability to delegate accordingly.
License
A valid CPA, CMA or other related accounting designation is required.
Position Classification
This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is $100,000 to $115,000 /year DOE, bonus
eligible, room for growth. Employment, including benefits, is provided through
