JOB SUMMARY: Leads and assists in one or more of the following areas: Information Technology, OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic. Serves as assistant office head to professionals providing professional support in one or more areas listed.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under broad supervision, leads a team of engineers in the planning, design, development, deployment and maintenance of the statewide IT network infrastructure to meet the needs of divisions/offices within the Department of Transportation. The incumbent will also lead a team of security engineers in the engineering, design, implementation, maintenance, and analysis of GDOT’s security technologies. Ensures all approved production changes and implementations are captured and documented through the configuration management process. Responsible for the infrastructure projects complete lifecycle from project initiation through implementation and ensures that project management standards and methodologies are implemented on all projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications


STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and five years of related experience

OR

  • Associates' degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and six years of related experience

OR

one year at the lower level Mgr 2, Transport Specialist (TRM031) or position equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership position.

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in business Administration, Computer Science, or Information Science/Technology, AND six years of experience within Information Technology of an increasingly responsible nature which involved planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating high level systems or large scale and critical Information Technology projects from conception to implementation. OR Eight years of experience within information Technology of an increasingly responsible nature which involved planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating high level systems or large scale and critical Information Technology projects from conception to implementation.
  • Extensive knowledge of network architecture, design, and network security.
  • Strong understanding of information security technologies – including networking, firewall technologies, VPN, configuration management & server hardening, user management, intrusion detection, log analysis and vulnerability assessment.
  • Experience researching and presenting emerging information technology to be analyzed and integrated within the organization considering usability, performance, reliability, supportability, and cost.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, with previous experience motivating and guiding others toward accomplishment of office/department goals.
  • Deep analytical skills to prioritize teams work, quantify project costs and benefits and make trade-offs while implementing information systems.
  • Possesses strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to express ideas and facts to groups and individuals effectively
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and solving problems and apply innovative solutions to make organizational improvements
  • Committed to providing quality customer service

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

In addition to the interview, the final selection is based on the applicant’s work history and performance (documented in HR and/or Office files), PeopleSoft/employee status (i.e. rehire code), employee performance reviews, personnel file review (HR & Office Files), criminal background check, employment reference checks (including references and commendations from Managers and other relevant documentation) and, for supervisory positions, demonstrated leadership skills based on past and current work history will be considered.

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
