Job Overview:
The Executive Vice President of Enterprise Technology has four primary areas of focus. These are 1) Technology Operations, 2) Enterprise Applications, 3) Building and Operational Technology, and 4) IT Security Policy and Compliance.

Regarding Technology Operations, the focus is to provide direction and oversight over Cortland’s Technology infrastructure, network, computer operations, office productivity solutions, and end user support at all corporate and apartment community locations. The EVP will supervise the company’s internal and customer facing business software application portfolio utilizing commercial real estate industry knowledge and best practices. This job is also responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting all processes associated with the provisioning of real estate specific applications and systems necessary for business operations, including the Building & Operational Technology at Cortland communities. This job will apply project management, business analysis, communication, and problem-solving skills to guide and assist project development, design and deployment of mission critical information and software systems. The EVP will provide oversight and direction of essential, appropriate technology security policies and solutions across all areas of the company.

Regarding internal oversight of all Technology functions, the focus is to have an awareness and conversational knowledge of all aspects of Cortland Enterprise Technology. This job will have internal accountability to ensure all Enterprise Technology functions are being properly delivered. This job will be accountable for proper vendor management of third party and outsourced functions and for internal communication regarding those functions to staff and senior management.
Roles You Will Play:
The Leader
  • Oversee Cortland’s technology infrastructure, network, computer operations, office productivity solutions, and end user support at all corporate and apartment community locations
  • Provide oversight and direction of essential, appropriate technology security policies and solutions across all areas of the company
  • Increase awareness and conversational knowledge of all aspects of Cortland enterprise technology
  • Demonstrate knowledge in technology leadership topics such as strategy, budgeting, project portfolio management, staff management, policy and procedure development, vendor management, enterprise technology operations, SOX audit, cybersecurity, and communication at all corporate levels
  • Take charge in gathering requirements, analyzing business processes, solving problems, reporting status, creating documentation, delivering training, implementing business solutions, and performing research into complex application issues involving multiple technologies
The Liaison
  • Lean into your project management, business analysis, communication, and problem-solving skills to guide and assist project development, design, and deployment of mission critical information and software systems
  • Align with proper vendor management of third-party and outsourced functions and for internal communication regarding those functions to staff and senior management
  • Plan, coordinate, and support all processes associated with the provisioning of real estate specific applications and systems necessary for business operations, including the building and operational technology at Cortland communities
  • Bridge the company’s internal and customer facing business software application portfolio while utilizing commercial real estate industry knowledge and best practices

Building Blocks of Success:
  • Stellar 10+ years of direct experience in managing technology operations, including cloud data center (preferably Azure), server, network, office productivity suites, and end user support
  • Strong 10+ years of direct experience in project management; proficiency in defining goals, developing and tracking project plans, tracking and resolving issues, directing cross functional teams, leading meetings, motivating team members, and enforcing accountability
  • Solid 5+ years of direct experience in business analysis; 3+ years direct experience managing financial applications, including multi-system data integrations, reporting, system administration, and cross departmental requirement analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience required
  • Strong customer service and servant leadership orientation combined with advanced communication and interpersonal skills; ability to train and communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Proven experience overseeing the design, selection, testing, and implementation of software solutions; strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
  • Established history of SaaS and vendor supplier evaluation, procurement, implementation, and ongoing management and tracking
  • Strong knowledge of technology and information security best practices and policies
  • Demonstrated real estate financial and/or operational business knowledge; experience with real estate specific applications and property operational technology (building systems)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft technologies and computer operating systems (i.e., Windows, Windows Server, Microsoft 365)
  • Direct experience working with MS SharePoint; having integral experience with at least one major SharePoint implementation is desirable but not required
