DEPARTMENT: CLAYTON DISTRIBUTION DIVISION

LOCATION: 5371 COOK RD, MORROW, GA 30260

Hourly Wage Rate: $20 - $30 per hour

JOB SUMMARY

The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation processes. The incumbent operates Hydrovac and other machines used in construction to excavate, load, dig or break rocks or debris, dirt, or other materials. The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the completion of projects in a safe and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Drive the Hydrovac truck or truck with Hydrovac trailer to job sites
  • Responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation projects including utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching, and digging
  • Operate Hydrovac trucks and equipment in a safe and professional manner
  • Set up and inspect grounding and/or bonding procedures for Hydrovac operation
  • Complete all required paperwork properly and within set time lines
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections, as well as routine maintenance
  • Complete and submit all required reports
  • Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Diversified Utility Services, LLC regulations and rules
  • Delivery of discarded materials to designated location and offloading from truck.

COMPETENCIES NEEDED

  • Knowledge of basic underground utilities
  • Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely
  • Ability to use time and equipment efficiently in order to complete projects on time
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to take detailed direction/instruction but work without direct supervision
  • Ability to stay focused on the job and tasks assigned.
  • Ability to remain alert at all times
  • Ability to work safely without taking unnecessary risks thereby preventing accident or injury to self or others as well as preventing damage to property
  • Ability to work well with others and avoid conflicts

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of Hydrovac operating experience
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must pass DOT drug screen and MVR check and background check pursuant to local, state and federal rules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Minimum of 2 years of Hydrovac operating experience
  • Mechanical ability; and knowledge of equipment and heavy vehicle operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Thorough understanding of construction principles and procedures
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment with extreme weather fluctuations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no direct reports and no supervisory responsibility.

WORK REQUIREMENTS

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, the hours in a day may run longer to complete a project. Weekend work may also be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.

The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 lbs. Anything weighing more than 50 lbs. requires a two-person lift and should not be attempted alone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment us usually loud.

TRAVEL: Local travel to various work or jobsites is required.
