Role Summary

The Facilities Design team is Rivian's in-house design team focused on the physical touchpoints of the brand; from workplace, manufacturing line design, R&D to full-scale production, and everything in-between. Our ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative thinker, with a solid understanding of architectural and interior design standards and practices and team management on large-scale projects. This is a team management position that is equally focused on building narratives and translating the Rivian brand into spaces that are rich in storytelling, details, efficiency, materiality, furniture, objects, and installations.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in and lead design charrettes, conversations, pin-ups, and presentations for both design and financial alignment with full project team (including Engineering, Manufacturing, FFE, Environmental Graphics teams)
  • Manage survey, drawing, and permitting schedule ensure deliverables align with internal milestones
  • Onboard new, local consultants and coordinate subsequent internal design for external implementation efficiently
  • Manage expectations of multiple internal stakeholders and partners
  • Manage and mentor team to meet project scope, budget, and timeline requirements
  • Connect team objectives to broader company priorities and objectives
  • Maintain a holistic involvement in all projects to develop efficiencies
  • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex technical and design challenges
  • Participate in project site visits and surveys weekly (post-pandemic)
  • Staying abreast of developing trends in the architecture and design community – including sourcing new vendors for procurement and collaboration of custom pieces
  • Monitor the progress of individual projects and coordinate design milestone and quality reviews with design leadership; and determine the correct level of review for each project
  • Coach, mentor and grow a team; provide support and leadership for team
  • Manage staffing needs, team growth, and headcount forecasting to enhance teams' quality and efficiencies
  • Contribute to the office and team culture and initiatives

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of architectural, engineering and/or interior design experience
  • A college degree in architecture or directly related field
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating large-scale, built design or architecture experience (including furniture specifications, products, and materials)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with an ability to manage multiple projects and team members in various phases
  • Proficient in developing and managing processes, design standards and narratives
  • Technical expertise in manufacturing processes and strategies is a plus
  • Resourceful, innovative, proactive and has the strong ability to work in a team environment under tight deadlines
  • Essential to have a can-do attitude and willingness to dive into a varied set of tasks
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop & InDesign
  • Willingness to travel at a time when it's safe to do so (post-pandemic)

Employees must be within a commutable distance to a Rivian workplace location (or future location) and expected to report there on a regular cadence with the Hiring Manager. This also includes the ability to travel determined by project and business need.
