Calling all creatives, solvers, analysts, planners, doers, and visionaries! East West Atlanta is looking to add a talented Product Development Engineer to our team.

Job Description: The Product Development Engineer II will assist in the engineering and product design, including design for manufacturability and cost of industrial products including plastic, metal, rubber and electronic assembly components. This position will support project from new product introduction through the product life cycle, and provide technical support in various manufacturing disciplines (including die cast metal working and plastic injection molding and metal working). Assist effort for on-time prototypes and production launch of new or modified products. Communicate with customers for resolution of technical issues. Assist in the development of quality specifications for inspection and testing manufactured products based on engineering, consumer, and regulatory test standards. Position will be based in Atlanta and report to a Senior Product Development Engineer. Responsibilities:

  • Will be responsible for multiple projects within the industrial products division of the engineering team representing full finished goods, sub-assembly, or single part projects and must manage schedules for timely completion.
  • Utilize customer designs, drawings and specifications to ensure manufacturable design, complete necessary documentation, lead New Product Introduction (NPI) process and issue production release
  • Evaluate feasibility of manufacturing new and revised customer products
  • Review, develop, modify and release technical documentation including mechanical drawings, schematics, bill of materials, PPAP submissions, and inspection procedures through the engineering change notification system
  • Coordinate the development, prototyping, and initial production of products
  • Will lead own NPI projects and/or support Senior Product Development Engineer on complex product development and NPI projects
  • Communicate technical details of products with customers and to overseas engineering staff
  • Manage project schedules to achieve on-time documentation of product specifications, customer approval of sample submission, and production launch
  • Create, review and modify 2D and 3D part and assembly drawings
  • Maintain clear and prioritized task list for all project details using project management software
  • Serve as technical and NPI schedule contact with customer
  • Arrange or conduct testing/validation of prototypes and completion of internal and customer qualification requirements
  • Investigate alternate materials, processes or coatings for improved functionality, quality and/or cost
  • Implement ISO-compliant processes for NPI
  • Sustaining support of parts in production via customer-driven or manufacturing-driven change management and technical resolution of quality issues
  • Coordinate product sample submissions for consumer and regulatory agencies such as UL, CSA, IEC, ETL, and FCC
  • Up to 20% domestic and international travel, including factory and customer visits
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Materials Science
  • Minimum 5-10 years of direct professional experience with same or similar products, materials and manufacturing processes, including consumer and/or industrial product development and implementation
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with die-casting. Ability to review customer 2D and 3D designs, assess adherence to good manufacturing practices, articulate changes required to enhance manufacturability, review schedules for tool construction, validate first shot samples, and provide root cause for non-conforming product.
  • Experience with several of the following technologies: plastic injection or extrusion molding, rubber injection molding, metal fabrication/forming/ assembly, metal welding/plating/coating, metal stamping/precision machining, welding, integration of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience creating and modifying drawings in Solidworks and Autocad or equivalent
  • Experience with GD&T
  • Experience creating, implementing and successfully achieving New Product Introduction (NPI) schedules, including rapid issue resolution and driving consensus among multiple stakeholders
  • Experience working with external factories and/or suppliers
  • Minimum 4 years of experience collaborating with manufacturing facilities in Asia (written and verbal communications)
  • Skilled using MS Office
  • Good communication and analytical skills for interfacing with manufacturing, sales team and customers
  • Ability to creatively solve problems (thinking outside of the box)
  • Capable of working in a hands-on, fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
  • Must enjoy and be successful working on a variety of dynamic projects

Preferred:

  • Experience with product development of electric motors (AC and/or DC).
  • Familiarity with regulatory test standards and certification procedures (ASTM, SAE, ASME, IEEE, UL, CSA, ISO, etc) preferred
  • Experience using computer modeling/simulation techniques (CFD, FEA) preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
