Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Analyst teams with others within IT to ensure our projects achieve optimal benefit to Fisher Phillips and maximize the impact of the firm’s investment in our initiatives.

The QA Analyst leads our QA efforts in two ways.

First, the QA Analyst will have direct involvement in our biggest and most consequential projects and will therefore be a key member of the team and work closely with others. Direct involvement will span from iterative software development phases to one-time application launches and system upgrades.

Second, this is a new position and therefore a great opportunity to make a lasting difference through establishing and upgrading IT’s QA strategies, processes, measurements, and standards.

The QA Analyst reports to the Director of IT Innovation & Development but is involved broadly across various IT teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Champion Fisher Phillips’ quality assurance best practices
    • Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in IT systems and projects.
    • With IT leadership, establish new and revised IT Quality Assurance practices and standards used for projects of all sizes and types.
    • Communicate QA best practices within the IT team and provide tools for others to use in smaller projects that do not require direct QA Analyst oversight.
    • Assist in the development of change control processes, practices, and guidelines for new and existing technologies.
  • Assume primary responsibility as QA Lead on the IT department’s largest and most consequential projects.
    • Custom software development products
      • Create and execute test plans and scripts that will determine optimal application performance according to specifications.
      • Ensure that testing activities allow applications to meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify existing or potential issues.
      • Make recommendations for improvement of applications to programmers and software developers or engineers.
    • Enterprise application and systems initiatives
      • Test new hardware and software upgrades to ensure integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications.
    • All projects
      • Write test plans and scripts for tracking defects.
      • Collaborate with software/systems personnel in application testing, such as system, unit, regression, load, and acceptance testing methods.
      • Analyze formal test results in order to discover and report any defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
      • Communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management.

Position Requirements and Advantageous Skills

  • Education: technology degree and/or minimum 5 years of experience and demonstrated ability to manage the QA aspects of complicated projects effectively
  • Hands-on experience testing custom-developed software within an iterative SDLC
  • Strong knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies
  • Experience as lead tester for a major application integration and/or major application product release
  • Proven data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Any of the following are not required but considered a plus
    • Experience designing, developing, and implementing quality assurance practices and driving adoption within a technology team
    • Fluency in programming languages, especially JavaScript
    • Experience working within both Agile and waterfall project methodologies
    • Experience testing hardware implementations and upgrades
    • Background in legal technology
    • Certifications such as CSTE, CSQA, ISTQB, and others
    • Training and/or experience with Change Management
