The Senior Legal Counsel for International Trade and Sanctions is an exciting opportunity for an international trade attorney seeking to serve as subject matter expert and strategic leader within a challenging and rewarding diverse environment. The role reports to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer and has one direct report.

This role will be part of our growing legal trade team and will be a trusted partner and key advisor for international trade. They will provide strategic counsel, legal support, interpretation, and analysis on a wide variety of global trade and complex compliance matters with a focus on global Customs and Sanctions regulations, including import classification, valuation, and free trade qualifications. They will partner with the Global Trade and Sanctions team to shape policies, procedures, and processes in response to complex and constantly evolving import/export regulatory developments. They will provide day-to-day legal counsel on a broad range of trade compliance matters and will be an integral part of the business, giving input on strategic and tactical decisions in support of the Company’s broader compliance programs.

What You'll Do for Us:

  • Provide legal advice related to export and import control regimes across the Company’s global businesses.

  • Provides legal and strategic guidance to (i) allow legitimate business, while mitigating risk; (ii) obtain import/export licenses and authorizations, where required; and (iii) implement duty optimization programs (e.g., preferential agreements, free zones, special programs & procedures).

  • Interpret, communicate, and apply the global trade regulations and translating them into appropriate risk management advice and related operational processes.

  • Support new businesses, emerging products and supply chains, and global trade compliance integration activities associated with the acquisition of corporate entities and other business development initiatives.

  • Conduct internal compliance investigations and risk assessments; manage voluntary self-disclosures.

  • Lead and participate in special projects and support other compliance program initiatives.

  • Manage, coordinate, and oversee the work of outside counsel, consultants, forensic accountants, and other advisors to prepare deliverables and ensure concerns are addressed.

  • Represent the Company before third parties and government agencies in audits, investigations and other proceedings.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience with global trade and/or Customs compliance, including classification, valuation, and free trade agreements, from a law firm or in-house with a multinational corporation

  • Experience interpreting, communicating, and applying customs regulations and translating them into appropriate risk management advice and related operational processes.

  • Ability to network effectively across the organization and with people in a variety of job roles to share subject matter expertise

  • Collaborates with industry associations, global trade practice area groups, and governments to keep abreast of regulatory developments, global trade trends, etc.

  • Ability to interact comfortably with executives and senior management; strong verbal and analytical skills; exceptional interpersonal skills; highly team-oriented; a commitment to professionalism.

  • Strategic mindset with strong business acumen

  • Bar admission/counsel certifications in good standing is required.

  • People management experience is preferred.
