General Description
The purpose of this job is to create visual text and imagery for PowerPoint presentations for senior executives at the Department of Aviation, in addition to internal projects in the Office of Public and International Affairs. The candidate must be experienced in communicating ideas that inspire and inform audiences. In addition to being skillful in layout and production design for newsletters and reports, this position will research topics in order to compile appropriate content for executive level presentations. The candidate will complete other special writing projects as assigned, including those for ATL Propel - the Department of Aviation’s intranet landing page.
This professional reports to the Assistant Director of the Office of Communications and Public Affairs. The candidate must be driven, efficient and detail-oriented to ensure all copy adheres to in-house and AP style rules and maintains consistency and accuracy. The candidate must also be able to adhere to tight deadlines while handling multiple projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work with multimedia content and compile informative, concise articles and compelling, accurate messaging. Ability to assemble data and create reports in a clear, concise manner. Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills are a must. Outstanding organizational, interpersonal and technical skills.
Ability to work independently as well as with a larger, multifunctional team. Ability to gather web analytics, oversee web trends and other material with efficiency and on deadline. Follows best practices for SEO and social optimization. Ability to be highly effective in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Creative problem solver with a desire to serve the public.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in journalism, public affairs or public relations, communications or a related field.
5-8 years' of progressively responsible supervisory experience in public relations required; equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis.
Preferred Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, public affairs, public relations, communications or a related field. Previous experience with HTML/CSS and WordPress is preferred.
