The purpose of the VP of Investments role is to partner with senior investment management leadership to lead acquisitions and dispositions including analysis of potential acquisitions/dispositions, performing due diligence, preparing investment packages, determining investment strategies, assisting with the financing and sourcing of deals, making presentations to the investment committee and working with field teams to prepare for acquisitions/dispositions.

The successful candidate will possess at least 10 years of real estate investment experience, ideally from a multifamily operating platform or REIT; although s/he could also come from a broader investment management or private equity platform with a focus across asset classes, as long as s/he has experience with and an understanding of multifamily investments. While East Coast experience is preferred, we will consider candidates from other markets, particularly if they have had exposure to the East Coast.

Primary functions and responsibilities will include:

  • Acquisitions / Business Development:
    • Identify and secure new investment opportunities for the firm’s investment vehicles.
    • Oversee preparation of investment committee materials and presentation thereof.
    • Negotiate legal documentation associated with acquisitions.
    • Oversee due diligence, legal (with help of outside counsel), and closing process for prospective acquisitions.
    • Secure asset level financing for new acquisitions; lead refinancing efforts on existing owned properties as necessary.
    • Initiate and maintain buyer and broker relationships in respective markets.
    • Represent the firm from a transactional perspective in respective markets (attend various industry events; maintain Bell presence through meetings and investment prospecting).
  • Dispositions:
    • Lead disposition process for properties; provide thought leadership on disposition timing based on investment objectives of owner, overall market conditions, and capital structure.
    • Manage brokers, buyers, lenders, and internal constituents through disposition process.
    • Negotiate legal documentation associated with dispositions.
  • Investments Platform:
    • Assist in semi-annual track record valuation process.
    • Participate in monthly repositioning calls and portfolio management duties; become involved in solving unique issues, as needed, during ownership period.
    • Participate in annual budgeting process.
    • Play a leadership role in ISG group meetings.

Education and Background

  • BA/BS in business or related field and at least 10 years of work experience in a relevant field or MBA with 5-7 year relevant work experience

  • Strong working knowledge of multi-family financial processes/analysis

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite to include Excel
