Expectations for the Role:

The Vice President Energy & Sustainability will be a leader on the Bridge Office centralized resource team and will be responsible for energy and sustainability programs and policies. This role will manage overall energy technology platforms that enable efficient service delivery, ensure the meeting of key performance indicators (KPIs) and maintain alignment for tracking and reporting of requirements. The role includes responsibility for the oversight of the Bridge Solar Initiative, including implementation, operations and strategy. Must have experience in energy solutions development and the ability to influence senior stakeholders, as s/he will be tasked with creating value added solutions for our enterprise and properties. The role requires regular interaction with leadership, clients, service providers, operational and support staff and will be part of a fast-paced environment consistently charged with handling multiple demands and priorities. As such, the successful candidate must have the ability to develop and present executive level business cases and be able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, effectively manage through stressful situations, and consistently make high-quality decisions. Candidate must have superb people management and documentation skills and deliver thoroughness and accuracy in all tasks. The role is critical to the success in driving energy and sustainability performance management and process improvement.


Responsibilities

  • Mentor and lead team of property engineers and managers in energy and sustainability operation across Bridge Office vertical.
  • Develop and execute Energy and Sustainability management strategy for real estate portfolio, including implementing programs to achieve energy, waste, and water reduction goals and targets by agreed timelines.
  • Manage energy benchmarking and assessment using internal digital platforms; analyze energy consumption metrics to identify opportunities and create control plans to sustain energy savings.
  • Manage identification and prioritization of energy and sustainability capital projects, operational changes and physical plant upgrades that reduce energy consumption, including renewable energy projects (e.g. solar PV), HVAC upgrades, lighting retrofits, building envelope enhancements, demand response and controls strategies, plug load management, employee engagement, and evaluating cutting edge technologies and services.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the operations and construction, design guidelines, process improvements, and program upgrades across multiple commercial assets.
  • Establish and oversee waste management and recycling strategies to support waste reduction goal.
  • Evaluate and present to leadership financial viability of projects for budgeting and approval.
  • Provide concise reporting of all energy and sustainability activities, metrics (cost savings, energy, water, waste, carbon footprint), and outcomes on prescribed intervals or as requested by client. Communicate plans and progress to all levels of staff through presentations and meetings.
  • Advise, coach, and support building and construction staff (property managers, engineers, technicians) in identifying, scoping, and implementing energy efficiency improvements.
  • Be an internal subject matter expert at Bridge and for the commercial office team on energy and sustainability, including energy optimization, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, materials and resources, and sustainability in the built environment.
  • Collaborate with other internal and external energy and sustainability managers to develop best practices and case studies for the overall and long-term benefit of the firm.
  • Leverage existing industry and consultant energy and sustainability expertise such as renewable energy, energy supply procurement, and building intelligence to meet client goals.
  • Improve the sustainability and health of facilities in line with industry best practices such as LEED, WELL, FitWel and beyond.
  • Experience and knowledge of infrastructure components, optimization, and MEP and BMS systems in new buildings, retrofits, and construction of tenant spaces.
  • Knowledge of technologies for energy and sustainability initiatives and familiarity with how to develop business case for investment in energy and sustainability technologies and strategies
  • Continually monitor industry trends, evaluate new products and services for value potential, and participate in industry working groups. Lead pilot tests of cutting-edge energy and sustainability solutions.
  • Establish a positive rapport with both property staff and management to ensure a high level of customer service.
  • Actively participate in the acquisition and disposition process by presenting findings and recommendations.
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies and strategies to keep energy and sustainability service products leading-edge.
  • Travel along with virtual collaboration.
  • Participate in property team administration and performance assessments, including regular reviews, training and development plans.
Qualifications:
What you will need
  • BS in engineering (electrical, mechanical, industrial, environmental), Masters preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience with energy conservation, energy management, performance contracting, program management, and/or energy engineering in Commercial Real Estate.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, building automation and control systems across a variety of building types including commercial offices and datacenters.
  • Energy procurement knowledge and experience
  • Experience and interest in new BI technologies; ability to learn, vet and recommend new technologies for the benefit of the client
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) highly desired. LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience presenting information to all levels of management.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications.
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively organize responsibilities.
  • Self-starter, team player, with ability to bring alternate points of view to the discussion and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service
