Summary: This position contributes to all functional areas of HR and works with leaders to align HR programs and initiatives with business objectives. Process employee FMLA paperwork, approve, edit, and provide minor critiques on corrective actions. Understands and enforces company policies and practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides consultation, guidance and coaching to managers in areas such as proper handling of employee relations matter and conflict resolution, delivering and documenting performance feedback and understanding of employment policies and practices.
  • Resolves moderately complex employee relations issues conferring with manager on complex and highly sensitive issues and documents conversations.
  • Summarizes meetings with employees who have concerns via email to the Associate HR Director within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
  • Contacts Associate HR Director immediately via phone regarding escalated issues and any workplace environment/violence complaints.
  • Handles leave of absence discussions, work accommodations, workers compensation and benefit questions.
  • Performs monthly audits of Employee Leave requests and ensures that appropriate paperwork (FMLA) has been updated, pre-exhaustion letters are benefit payments are sent timely and that FMLA time off has been captured in the system.
  • Responds to unemployment claims timely and ensures that employment verifications are completed timely.
  • Conducts new employee orientation in the absence of other HR staff including verification of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Assists with recruiting, interviewing of internal candidates and external candidates when needed.
  • Participates on various corporate committees such as wellness or employee activity and helps promote upcoming events.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations in all aspects of employment (hiring, firing, FMLA, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, EPA, EEOC, FCRA, etc.)
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings as needed.
  • Assists the department in carrying out various human resources programs and procedures for all employees
  • This position involves regular access to specified personal information of consumers, including, but not limited to, Social Security numbers and dates of birth.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a HR Degree/Certificate and/or 3 years’ experience in a Human Resource Generalist positions. Certificate in HR preferred.

Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence in which others can understand.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Understand percentages as it pertains to calculating salary increases and compensation ratios.

Reasoning Ability Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginning to intermediate skills in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point as well as a basic understanding of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). Payroll processing knowledge a plus.

Other Skills: Full range of developed HR competencies in training and development, recruiting and selection processes, onboarding, employee relations and HR Compliance.

Certifications: Professional in Human Resources (PHR) preferred.
